Our Church's Little Devil

A funny e-mail came out today from our church's childrens ministry...

During the 5:30 service yesterday at church, some people might have noticed the Nursery pager flashing "666" repeatedly, we couldn't get it to stop. Please be advised, this was not a spiritual warfare situation, I was paging 999.....Thanks go out to Aaron, who eventually realized the display was mounted upside down this week!

8 minutes to early

The Chicago Bears played Monday night football against a not so good team this week. John and I were fairly excited to sit down and watch the game but after the poor showing in the first half we were down by 20 and hadn't seen a good play by the Bears yet! We continued to watch the 3rd quarter...time after time, passes getting intercepted, fumbles...we were starting to looking like the bad news Bears again. 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter and we were down by 2 touchdowns...we decided to watch the Bears take offense one more time before turning in as the game was really long and we were tired and embarrassed for the Bears at this point. And that is when it happened...Rex Grossman got the ball knocked out of his hands one last time....and we were done. Too disgusted to watch any more we turned off the TV and went to bed.

As I was getting ready the next morning I was listening to Good Morning America and I hear 'The biggest upset in football history' ...and I begin to think to myself...wow it was bad, the Bears played terrible but the 'biggest upset' I think that's a little extreme. And then I hear...Coming from a 20 point deficit, the Bears win late in the 4th quarter'...Wait...what? Did I hear that correctly? It couldn't be, we watched everything but 8 minutes. I yell down to John who was eating breakfast that they just said the Bears won. In disbelief we turn on Sports Center to find out that what they were saying was true. We went to bed 8 minutes to early, and missed what they some around here are calling the 'Game of the Century....' What kind of fans are we?

After 5 years of living in the state of IL I finally got my drivers license! All in all the process was not to painful. It took about an hour, I had to take a vision and written test and I left with my new license! Hurray!

The Calm Before the Storm?

Well here we are...I decided I would sneak at least one more blog in before August 26th. I know I have been MIA the last 6 months (only 6 posts). Since I was pretty surprised by the engagement, I don't think I had any idea how my life would change so quickly overnight. With work being quite busy, evenings have been filled with planning, printing, folding, stuffing, ordering, calling and so on. As the days dwindle always, my stress level is pretty good. I am just excited for things to get here. I am excited for friends to show up, to see how everything is going to look once it has all been pulled together, and to finally go to Belize. A few things I've been particularly savoring from my singleness the last few weeks...

1) Writing Homrich, although I'm not necessarily sad to be losing my last name, it seems strange that I will no longer sign 'Homrich' or perhaps be called 'Homrich' as I am often referred to by friends.
2) Staying up really late on work nights...Mr. Mitchell is a bit of an early bird during the week b/c he goes into the office early...where as I go into the office later, and enjoy staying up. So the past few weeks I've made sure to stay up exceptionally late. With the layout of our Condo...staying up late may be hindered in a few weeks.
3) Watching Oprah late at night.
4) Hogging the Bed...laying vertical, diagonally, and spreading out as much as possible.
5) Using all the covers for myself

That being said, I am really really excited to be married. I know that we will still want to kill each other some days...and some day he'll be the last person I probably will ever want to see laying next to me...in the end I can't imagine anyone else. What a year!

Quite a difference from last year...Or 2 years ago today when the title of my post was "Why I will be Single for Ever"

Just another reason I am marrying John Adams Mitchell...

Today I was cleaning...and I decided to go through some of the bathroom drawers and cabinets. I decide that if I tried really hard I could empty one of the 6 drawers out, if I start purging stuff now, slowly, it won't make it so hard when we start moving John's stuff in...soon enough, after some shuffling and rearranging I had done it. I opened the cabinets and I decided to do the same...one shelf...baby steps here, I cleared one shelf... I was so proud when John came over after work I drug him up stairs to the bathroom and I showed him the one drawer AND the one shelf I had cleared all for him...he looked at me, smiled, said Wow babe, you can totally have that shelf back, I won't need it, he drawer will totally be enough.

dress shopping...the battle within...

A cruel thing really...put a girl in a room with thousands of pretty gowns and tell her to pick one, only one! Seriously people, now that's just mean. More painful then jean shopping (yes, there is such a thing)...more stressful and labor intensive then most people's day jobs...more of an internal battle then I ever expected it to be. So many to choose from, such a huge price range, styles, shapes, textures...wow. Midway through the search the battle within emerged...the fight between the princess in me and the girl that dares to walk to her own beat...at every store I had narrowed it down to 2 very different style dresses. The battle between having the fairytale dress and having the more sophisticated, form fitting, flashy dress that not every girl would wear…the one that people would say, “only jumper”…the battle continued and raged throughout the day…up until the 11th hour when I was stood in the dressing room of a bridal store, 45 minutes from my parents house, 30 minutes till closing time with 4 dresses…2 of one style, 2 of the other…wanting them all, having only one wedding day, and only one dress to be had. Over 50 dresses, 4 stores, and 9 hours...i purchased a wedding dress. Which one did I pick…I’ll let you know in 6 months.

Texting...

...it's the new IM, the lazy man's voice mail, the way to communicate when you know the other person can't actually answer the phone, and works great in a loud environment...everybody's doing it now...it's becoming the 'thing' to do...."Text Me"...yet I have a problem with it...it's not the concept, it's the word, 'I was texting so and so' or 'He texted me today'...it sounds dirty to me. I have a hard time hearing it or listening to it in conversation. I'm not sure what it is about the word that makes it seem dirty to me, if it's the actual word or just the way the word is being used in a sentence but something about it makes me uncomfortable...am I alone in this?
